At the beginning of this module we explained that there are numerous models of Emotional Intelligence, and that we prefer to use the trait model. Remember the trait model defines that emotionally intelligent behaviour is primarily an expression of our personality traits, underpinned by our cognitive capability.
We use a personality test that assesses people on 32 dimensions. There are both productive (high EQ) and counterproductive (low EQ) behaviours associated with each trait. We use this test simply because it is the most widely researched personality test available. In addition, over the 30 years in which we have used it, it has proven itself consistently over time.
